Once

Once cover
Once
From 1939 until 1945 the world was at war. The leader of the Nazis, Adolf Hitler, has sworn to kill every last jew, to make them extinct. Felix, the main character is unaware of the on going war. As his parents put him in a christian Orphanage at a young age, to protect him from Adolf Hitler and his army, as he is a jew. Felix is filled with enjoyment as he forces himself to belive that his parents are back at their home town to take him back from the orphanage. this excitement quickly ends when he finds out what is really going on in the world. While running from Adolf hitlers men, Felix saves an optimistic yet Childish girl named Zelda. They create a close bond as they can relate to each other as they don't yet know where their parents are or what happened to them. Together Felix and Zelda save Each others lives Along their Journey to find their parents.

This is by far one of my favourite books. For me it is like a stimulus to what happened in world war 1. Morris Gleitzman creates time travel for my mind. It takes me back in time, to experience the sadness and to sympathise with the other characters such as Felix, during that time period. This book is very intense which made me not put it down. The very descriptive language allows you to visualise the scene with ease. It gets your heart racing during the action scenes and slows your heart when something sad and dramatic happens.  I Highly recommend this book to anyone.

Blurb of Once:

Once I escaped from an orphanage to find Mum and Dad.
Once I saved a girl called Zelda from a burning house.
Once I made a Nazi with toothache laugh.
My name is Felix.
This is my story.
Everybody deserves to have something good in their life.
At least once

The Blurb above is what Led me to reading this legendary book.  I had to choose from 6 or 7 books for readers cup in primary school, and Once just so happened to be in it. I straight away chose this book after reading the other books blurbs, I didn't even consider the other books when I saw this. Even though i am not much of a reader, i decided to read the second book: Then because i adored the first book.
